NECROWHOREX – Rückwärts

Necrowhorex got recommended to me on Youtube like two weeks ago, when they uploaded their song Gott to their Youtube channel. It's strange, because I normally don't like bands who sing in german. But I like this one.

Their song Gott that I mentioned earlier seems to be a cover of obscure german (Hamburg) punk band Lisa Hell Rosa's song of the same name. I say obscure because aside from the band telling someone to check out "the original from Lisa Hell Rosa" in the Youtube comments of their cover and track listings of Rosa's album with the song I couldn't actually find anywhere to listen to or buy it. All I could find were a few other songs of Rosa.

Ghost – Ritual

Ghost. In and before 2018 I listened to almost nothing else. I had 6724 logged songs, 52% of which were Ghost songs. Then my gradually stopped listening to them. I didn't really like Prequelle (I deluded myself for a bit saying it wasn't that bad) and when IMPERA came out in 2022 I already didn't listen to much, if any, Ghost anymore. And I really didn't like IMPERA at all. Or anything Ghost produced after Prequelle, for that matter. The music didn't really do it for me anymore and Ghost as a whole felt more and more like a commercial product instead of just some good satanic melodies. Ghost was always a band with a gimmick (masked singed, a bit of narrative, no one knew who the person behind the project was), but now it seemed to me like the music became secondary and they went all in for a big narrative that people can obsess over. Don't get me wrong, I liked the narrative before, it was nice to have. But in my opinion, that narrative should always be small, easy to understand, essentially just some flair.

This might very well be the last At the Gates album we will ever get. I listened to it a lot today, but I'll need some more time to form an opinion on it. Just this for now: I like it.

Maybe they'll do one last tour for the album with a guest vocalist. That would be something I could not miss. But we'll see.

Mastodon really is a special band and I gotta listen to more of their later material. So far I only listened to Leviathan and Remission in depth and a few songs from Once More 'Round the Sun and The Hunter.
