09.12.2025 – Jack Off Jill & Spotify Wrapped

Track of the Day

Jack Off Jill – My Cat

Jack Off Jill is another all time favourite of mine. The first draft of this post had a bunch of honorable mentions by them but I decided it's better to use them on later days and that it wouldn't really do them justice to just bunch them all up here.

Spotify Wrapped

Spotify Wrapped came out a few days ago! I was very excited, because I had the feeling I listened to even better music than usual this year.
And I was right! I have such good music taste. I am amazing. I know.

I was happy to see the fake genre names gone from this year's wrapped and to see it return to just fun numbers and stats.
My musical age for example is 74 and the highest I've seen anyone have. But it's completely justified, I have discovered sixties folk/singer-songwriter music for me this year and have been listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen, Rodríguez, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Tia Blake and the likes.
And I've listened to 40239 minutes of music this year :) That's 27 days. :>

My most listened-to song this year has been "Coming Back to You" by Leonard Cohen. For some reason I really liked starting my days by singing this song.

  1. Leonard Cohen – Coming Back to You
  2. Serj Tankian – I'm in Heaven
  3. Tia Blake – The Rising of the Moon
  4. Leonard Cohen – Sisters of Mercy
  5. Leonard Cohen – Famous Blue Raincoat

However, when looking at the top albums of my year suddenly AJJ enters the picture. But that's no surprise to me, AJJ always takes the top spot on my charts.
I've listened to 2410 minutes (that's 1,7 days) of AJJ, and am in their top 0,09% of listeners :> AND their top 1353 fan :>>

  1. AJJ – Candy Cigarettes, Capguns, Issue Problems! and Such (347 minutes)
  2. Rodríguez – Cold Fact
  3. AJJ – People Who Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World
  4. Rodríguez – Coming From Reality
  5. AJJ – Only God Can Judge Me and More

Genres! Am I right? Up until this point I was a bit sad that there's been no metal yet. But luckily the top genres still showed my roots.

  1. Doom Metal
  2. Folk Punk
  3. Singer-Songwriter
  4. New Wave
  5. Rock

And finally my top artists this year were:

  1. AJJ
  2. Leonard Cohen
  3. Killswitch Engage
  4. Candlemass
  5. Rodríguez

I totally forgot that I listened to that much Killswitch Engage this year. According to last.fm I just listened to them January to March and then again June to August, not once in any other month so I guess it has been a while.

Fuck Spotify

Now that the year and Spotify Wrapped is over it's the perfect opportunity to ditch Spotify (CEO investing in AI military tech, ads for ICE, promoting AI-generated music, worst payout to artists per stream by far).
I looked mainly at Deezer and Tidal since I didn't wanna switch from one big unethical shitfuck company to another. I liked Tidal the best (relatively high payout per stream for a streaming service), but when I tried to actually use it I quickly switched to Deezer.
Why? Because Tidal doesn't have Jack Off Jill! (only the compilation) (btw. did you notice how I looped back around to the start of the article? Yeah I'm kinda awesome like that).
And a bunch of other stuff was missing too. I didn't expect this to be a problem but oh well. Deezer also misses one or two songs but nothing I will miss. So Deezer I chose.
I should mention there's also Qobuz buuut they're more expensive and seems like more marketed towards """audiophiles""". (don't get me wrong I wouldn't have chosen a streaming service that doesn't offer FLAC/CD-quality and I care way more about audio quality than 99% of people but every audiophile has to agree that they're kind of cringe)
